Treatment Spotlight: Fat Freezing
What is fat freezing?
Fat freezing is a non-surgical treatment that aims to reduce unwanted fat pockets resistant to diet and exercise. The cells are frozen for a period of time in the aim to reduce them for an overall slimmer appearance. This has become an incredibly popular procedure due to its effective results and essentially free of any downtime.
Is fat freezing safe?
Yes, as long as you are seeing a certified provider! CosmeticPerks works exclusively with board-certified dermatologists and licensed cosmetic providers. Our network of doctors, dermatologists and aestheticians are all vetted to provide you with a safe and effective treatment. Patients may experience side effects, however these are usually mild and quickly dissipate.
Am I eligible?
Fat freezing is used to treat stubborn fat resistant to diet and exercise. It is not a supplement for either. If you have stubborn fat somewhere on your body that just won’t go away despite your efforts and you’re within 15-30 pounds of your goal weight, you may be a good candidate for fat freezing. Your provider will ultimately determine whether this treatment will work for you.
How long does the procedure take?
Treating each area takes about 35 minutes. For example, if the client is attempting to treat their love handles, the device would be moved from one love handle to the other, for a total of around 70 minutes. The average patient typically treats three to four areas per session.
What areas can it treat?
Fat freezing treatments such as CoolScuplting treat some of the most problematic areas, including: the double chin, thighs, abs, love handles, upper arms, bra/upper back fat, and the area directly under the butt.
What are the most common side effects?
Side effects may include: temporary redness, swelling, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging, tenderness, cramping, aching, itching, or skin sensitivity.
How much does fat freezing cost?
Typically, one session per area will cost $750-$1200. As a CosmeticPerks member, your session will cost $600-$960, depending on the area size you’d like to have treated.

Your Treatment Experience
Find a provider in your area who offers fat freezing treatments and book your free consultation. Do your research and look at before and after images to understand if this treatment will help fit your aesthetic goals. During your consultation, the provider will be able to confirm whether or not fat freezing is right for you.
Your procedure will take place in one of the providers treatment rooms. It is recommended that you wear loose, comfortable clothing, but you may change into a gown depending on the office and area that you are treating. Before the fat freezing application is applied, the provider will sterilize and mark the treatment areas and apply a protective gel pad. The applicator will hold the skin in place as the fat cells are slowly frozen and crystallized. Your experience during the procedure will vary depending on your pain tolerance, but you’ll likely feel a slight temporary pressure and cold bursts of air. Each application typically takes about 35 minutes, so total time varies based on the needs of the patient. Many patients use this time to binge on their favorite streaming service or catch up on their email.
One of the great aspects of fat freezing is its lack of downtime. Post-treatment, you can go about your day as usual, whether that may be run errands or heading to the office. Side effects from this treatment may include some soreness for a few days, but this would be strictly in the treated area and could be compared to that of an intense workout.
Since the fat cells are frozen and eliminated from your body, they are long term and permanent, but it may require a few sessions over a period of time to achieve the results you desire. If you were to gain the weight back because of unhealthy eating habits and lack of exercise, your existing fat cells may enlarge. It may take between one and three months for the individual to see full results.
Everyone’s body and needs are different, but our board-certified and licensed cosmetic providers will be able to give you a better sense of the best treatment regimen for you. During your consultation, you will be given all of the information you need to understand how to achieve your desired, realistic results. Each session will be spaced out with a few weeks in between, so plan accordingly if you are seeking results before a big event.
