Everything You Need To Know About Treating Lip Lines
Even if you regularly moisturize and exfoliate your lips, regular day to day activities can cause pesky lines to form on and around them. Thankfully, there are treatments available that can perk back up the appearance of your lips, and they are all available at 20% off with your CosmeticPerks membership.
You probably already know about the benefits of microneedling, but let us give you a quick reminder: this treatment creates tiny punctures in the top layer of skin, thus plumping your complexion, brightening hyperpigmentation, and more. What you may not have been as familiar with is the fact that you can also safely do this on your lips. After your treatment, when your skin is more likely to better absorb products, try using a vitamin-rich serum to maximize results.
Restylane uses hyaluronic acid that’s almost identical to what’s found naturally in your body. It is most commonly used to smooth fine lines and wrinkles, especially in the lip area, with results lasting between six to nine months.
Dr. Bertha Baum of Hollywood Dermatology shared exclusively with us her approach on injectables: “Always natural, enhancing the patient’s beauty since we are all different, I tell patients I want to make them more beautiful but not change who they are. Also, I try to be conservative while delivering results. Especially with new patients, I always like to bring them back for a touch up and reassess their needs.”
There are a variety of Juvèderm dermal fillers available, but Juvèderm Ultra XC is recommended for minimizing the appearance of lip and facial wrinkles. It contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic to reduce discomfort you may experience during the treatment, with results generally lasting nine months to one year.
A newer filler on the market also made from hyaluronic acid, Belotero Balance is strong enough to treat nasolabial folds, aka “smile lines” or “laugh lines”, but also delicate enough to treat your upper lip line by gently adding volume back into the lips, leaving you with immediate results that can last about six months or more.
So when is the right time to start thinking about treating your lip lines? Dr. Baum says it really depends on each patient: “This really depends on a lot of factors and predispositions, there is really no right time to start. The best thing to do is visit a board-certified dermatologist and raise your concerns. After a thorough evaluation, decide if you should start injectables and at what age. There is definitely a point where fillers won’t be enough to erase lines, and other injectables and lasers will be needed to make them smooth.”
