The other day I overheard a stranger describing a beautiful woman. "She had flawless skin, it looked like porcelain, she was glowing!" they said. So, I began to think about how one really achieves this perfect complexion.

Dr. Mary Lupo, a clinical dermatology professor at the Tulane University of Medicine says, "Beauty is associated with perfect skin, and pores are a huge part of that equation." She goes on to explain, "When pores are tighter, light reflects better. You get an overall appearance of vitality, youthfulness, and health." Pores, that's it! I thought to myself.

There are a variety of circumstances that factor into your pore size; genetics, age, and diet are a few. With recent technology, dermatologists have discovered new ways to minimize the appearance of their size. Lasers, facials, and a consistent skincare routine are the key to achieving this perfect skin.

In order to minimize the appearance of our pores, we first have to understand them. At the opening of each pore, there is a hair follicle which contains an oil gland. People with more oily follicles (and skin for that matter) tend to have larger pores, while people with drier follicles and skin tend to have smaller ones. In the absence of a good skincare routine, the buildup of oil and dead skin cells may the appearance of pore size. Pores are a vital part of the skin and we need to take care of them. Healthy pores are happy pores and happy pores will make your skin radiate!

A solid skincare ritual is the first step to cleansing your pores and, as always, a great cleanser is essential. For a basic but affective routine, we recommend the EltaMD Foaming Facial Cleanser, filled with gentle enzymes and amino acids to help loosen makeup, oil, and other impurities to give your skin a fresh, radiant feel. Using a toner to follow a deep cleanse is a great way to get rid of any leftover residue. Peter Thomas Roth's 8% Glycolic Solutions Toner is a great pick. Glycolic acid is a natural exfoliant that works to shed the outermost layer of dead skin cells, letting your pores breathe.

Top off your routine with SkinMedica's Ultra Sheer Moisturizer. Sans oil, this nourishing moisturizer uses antioxidants and hyaluronic acid to hydrate oil-prone and sensitive skin types. For those without oily skin who are looking for a little more hydration, we recommend the GLOWBIOTICS Probiotic Brightening Renewal Lotion. With a daily routine, you will improve not only the appearance of your pores but also the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin tone.

A healthy skincare routine used in tandem with non-surgical cosmetic procedures is the key to dazzling results. Laser Genesis

Lasers are the new rave in skincare, and not without reason. This specific treatment, Laser Genesis, involves a heat-based laser that uses the body's natural processes to stimulate collagen growth to heal and replenish healthy skin tone and texture. It is noninvasive and works to even out skin tone, reduce pore size, and even minimize scarring.

eMatrix Laser Skin

Another popular laser procedure for your pores is eMatrix Laser Skin, which uses radiofrequency energy to slowly resurface the skin. It typically takes four to five of the 20-minute treatment sessions to achieve desired results of tight, flawless skin free of wrinkles, redness, and acne scars. Your skin will become smoother and brighter -- and your pores will appear virtually nonexistent.

HydraFacial

We all love facials, we all swear by facials. This specific treatment gently cleanses, exfoliates and hydrates your skin. With the use of antioxidants and hyaluronic acid, the HydraFacials® MD works to improve the look and health of your skin. The extraction and exfoliation process of the facial will even out the tone and texture of your skin while cleaning out pores and clearing congestion. The hyaluronic acid that follows binds to water the retain moisture, boosting hydration, while improving tone and texture. Best of all, your skin will be glowing instantly.

As our body's largest organ, we should tend to our skin with the utmost care, especially the delicate skin of the face. Keeping pores consistently clean will contribute to their overall health and appearance. With the right products and treatments, your skin will be supple and glow like never before.
